SPRING
It is the end of winter. A young girl and her faithful companion enter the ancient, frozen forest, to perform the traditional rites to dispel the winter and initiate the arrival of spring.
SPRING SOUNDTRACK
This score is for 27-piece orchestra. I decided to create a melody-driven piece, forming a "signature" for the film via thematic music. I used chimes, harp, and flute as embellishing tones at magical moments (i.e. when our protagonist performs spells.) In soaring, momentous parts, I featured flute folk techniques in the form of scoops, microtones, trills, and grace notes to resemble timbral qualities of the Celtic flute, which is an ancient wooden folk instrument - though the girl's clothes are modern, I interpreted the ruins and landscapes depicted in this film, perhaps as dating back to a pre-Neolithic Ireland, which inspired a few of my compositional decisions. Full short film.
